Lemurian crystals are quartz crystals that have horizontal striations on their sides. Although we mostly see them in clear quartz form, you can find these striations on other forms of quartz as well, such as smoky quartz. If you’ve had a crystal healing session with me, you may have seen that I used two wands – one is a clear quartz wand and the other is a strawberry quartz lemurian, which is the wand that is doing the real work in the session. 

The name is from the ancient mythical society of Lemuria, which like Atlantis, was hypothesised to have sunk beneath the ocean (but it is believed that the Lemurians were more spiritually developed and committed to peace). To some, Lemuria (or something like it) was the birthplace of humanity. In this framework, the striations (well, lines or grooves) on these crystals are encoding ancient information or messages from the ancient wisdom of Lemuria.  

For these reasons, lemurian quartz stones are also known as Star Seed Quartz, Lemurian Seed Crystals or Lemurian Light Crystals.

Given modern understandings of tectonics and continental drift, I will admit that I find the concept of Lemuria somewhat unlikely – but I don’t know everything in the universe, so hey, it’s possible.

In any case, whether or not the ancient civilisations link resonates with you, most crystal lovers have found these to be pretty special stones. They are said to help us connect with divine purpose, ancient wisdom, and to kind of turbo boost spiritual development. 

They are great for cleansing and charging the chakras (which is why they’re such an important part of a crystal healing practitioner’s toolbox). They promote healing and clearing energy blockages. Lemurians are also great for helping us to feel a connection to the all, and to the higher consciousness beyond our own little heads.

There is a legend that Lemurian crystals are placed in a crystal grid across the Earth (and even beyond), and so when we are connecting with one of these stones, we are connecting to all of the Earth, as well as the stars and even beyond. 

Unlike regular clear quartz stones that you can program as desired, we don’t program Lemurians, but invite them to activate – to do their thing, to share their wisdom, and to help us and those we are in contact with to connect with deeper wisdom, insight and our highest vibration selves.

Whether or not they come from an ancient civilisation, these crystals are special and sacred. I believe we should treat them with respect, and work with them to bring about the highest good for not just ourselves, but for all.
